Focus on “Front Porch” and September 2023 Hours
Contrasting with the mostly dark surroundings, that sunny orange porch is what constantly catches viewers’ attention in “Front Porch”. This is not a pretty house nor a pretty yard, but overall a feeling of striking beauty is created.
The inner porch radiates a mysterious beauty.
Art imitates life?
This silent sunlit drama by the edge of the woods is what attracted me to paint “Front Porch”. It is amazing what artists are capable of doing! In my preliminary sketches I eliminated some overgrowth to simplify the scene and bring all of the attention to the sunlit porch. Tree foliage was manipulated to partially “frame” the house and a patch of sunlit grasses cut down to a line of grasses to better lead eyes to the porch. The house’s tilt was exaggerated and the side door’s window brightened to suggest a connection to the porch sunlight. People lived here once and, although the outer beauty of the house and porch is fading, the inner one remains.
