“I strive to entice the viewer into my world, beyond what is seen and known, to what is felt.”
Artist Anne Heywood is an American realist who involves viewers in her works by depicting both modern and traditional subjects in realistic yet simple terms, thereby provoking thought. Her paintings and drawings are noted for their strong compositions and subtle color transitions, as well as their beauty – a reflection of her life spent in New England and Italy.
Heywood is the recipient of many honors and awards, most recently the Eminent Pastelist designation from the International Association of Pastel Societies at their 2015 Biennial Convention in Albuquerque, NM. In 2012 she received the Dr. Adrian Tinsley Award for Achievement in the Arts from Bridgewater State University (MA). In 1997 she received the first Convention Cover Award from the International Association of Pastel Societies, and in 2005 was inducted into their Masters Circle. In 2003 her book, Pastels Made Easy, was published by Watson-Guptill Publications, NYC. Both her writings and paintings have been published in international books and magazines such as Australian Artist Magazine and The Best of Sketching and Drawing. In 2007, she was honored by the company Great American Art Works with their Anne Heywood Masterclass Assortment set of pastels.
A signature and founding member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, Heywood is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Connecticut Pastel Society, and an artist member of the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club, and the National Association of Women Artists. Her educational background includes a B. A. summa cum laude in Art. She is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Women. Heywood works in her studios in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts and Waldoboro, Maine. She accepts commissions for custom paintings and pet portraits, and offers workshops, lectures, and demonstrations. Her works can be found in both national and international corporate and private collections. She is represented in Maine by the Heywood Gallery, Waldoboro, Gifts at 136, Damariscotta, and the Portland Art Gallery, Portland.
